Fitness trainer charged with sexually assaulting teen in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT — A trainer at a local fitness club has been charged with sexually assaulting a teenage client.

Ricardo Bertoloto-Dacosta, 39, of Vincellette Street, was charged Wednesday with fourth-degree sexual assault.

He was released after posting $25,000 bond pending arraignment in state Superior Court on April 1.

Police said on Oct. 5, officers were dispatched to the Main Street club for a sexual assault complaint. A 16-year-old girl said she had been inappropriately touched by her trainer, Bertoloto-Dacosta, police said.

Police said the teen told them after entering the gym, she had gone to Bertoloto-Dacosta’s office for her monthly measurement. This time, however, Bertoloto-Dacosta had shut his office door once she was inside. He then lifted her shirt and began fondling the girl’s chest, police said.

Police said the teen told Bertoloto-Dacosta to stop and he put her shirt down and then began vigorously massaging her legs.

The girl left the office and went out to use the gym’s exercise equipment, police continued. Bertoloto-Dacosta then went over to her, tapped her on her rear end and told her she was “perfect,” police said.

When officers later confronted Bertoloto-Dacosta with the teen’s allegations, police said he told them he does measure her as part of her exercise program but denied he had done anything inappropriate.
